"Moon" left out of the Oscar race by Sony...

It looks like Sony Pictures Classics has decided to not back Moon in the Oscar race this season. The film is directed by Duncan Jones and stars Sam Rockwell. Despite getting good critical praise and nominations / wins at many top film festivals (British Independent Film Awards, Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Athens International Film Festival), it was not included in the studio's awards season screener copies that were sent out to academy voters. This nearly ensures that the film will not be nominated for any Academy Awards. Why isn't the studio standing behind the film? Duncan Jones (the director) would like to know, and he has taken to his Twitter page to find out. Last Wednesday he tweets about the decision to not include the film: "we have more than asked.. we’ve knocked heads. they have chosen the films they are backing & we are not in their plans. They say it costs too much for our little film as they would need to be water-marked copies as our DVD isnt out yet in the US.”

The DVD argument by the studio has not satisfied the protest though, and Hollywood heavy-weights Neil Gaiman and Jon Favreau have both joined in offering their praise and support for the film. A petition has also been started to get Sam Rockwell a Best Actor nomination (you can sign it HERE). It currently has over 3,000 signatures.

The hope is that solid work gets awarded, but when you have such big-budget films and studios, smaller independent features can only hope for their production studio to promote them. In this case, unless Sony Pictures Classics changes its mind, Moon is destined to be another film passed over for blockbusters like Avatar (nominated for Best Picture Drama Golden Globe).

ABC rings in the new year with gay sex on One Life to Live...

Scott Evans and Brett Claywell on ABC's One Life to Live

ABC, the same station that censored Adam Lambert's now infamous gay kiss, has set a new milestone in daytime television history: gay sex. That's right, One Life to Live now features a prominent gay love story, and on December 30th's episode, the two took it to the sheets. The scene is very tasteful and treated like any other love scene for soaps. Watch it after the jump...

-The NY Times finally reviewed Sarah Palin's Going Rogue. It's definitely worth a read / laugh HERE. Here's a highlight to wet your sweet tooth:
Her nasal voice, pitched in the upper register, with the upsy-downsy, singsong delivery of a kindergarten teacher, became, rather improbably, a great electoral asset. Her diction and accent were shaped more by class than region, and spiced with faux-genteel cuss words like "dang," "heck," "darn," "geez," "bullcrap," and "bass-ackwards."

-Jennifer Lopez (41) performed in Times Square last night wearing a skin tight jump suit that left nothing to the imagination. The star is well known for risqué fashion choices, and this one seems to be paying off - she was the top Yahoo search this morning. Full story HERE

Kathy Griffin drops the F-Bomb on CNN...

Kathy Griffin is one classy lady. And she proved it again last night on CNN ringing in the new year with Andy Coopper by dropping the F-Bomb on live TV. The best part of this whole story is that she was making fun of 6 year old Falcon Heene's name (the Balloon Boy), "How do you say it? Fal, Fuc*ing, Falcon?". She forgot they were televised for a moment thinking it was just a gay and his hag sitting around chatting, and she let it fly. In the words of the Anderson, "You're terrible, really terrible." Couldn't agree more. Watch below...

Jamie Bell Shirtless in "Eagle of the Ninth" Roman Epic...

THEN:

NOW:

Billy Elliot has officially grown up. In pictures from the set of the new film Eagle of the Ninth, Jamie Bell shows off his sweet new body! The movie is set for release in 2010 and also features Channing Tatum and Donald Sutherland. It is set in the year 140 AD and based on the novel by Rosemary Sutcliff. Here is a brief synopsis of the film if you are interested, although judging by the picture above, ticket sales should be just fine without it...

"In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth." - Focus Features
